Section 1:
Indentify one theme or issue rom your close study film (1)
Social empairment is an issue that is present during the whole of Amelie. Amelie is a very shy character, who is not good with interacting with people she does not know well, which all comes down to her childhood.
Briefly describe what the film suggests about this theme or issue (3)
The film suggests that social empairment is a big issue. It also suggests social empairment can come about depending on a child up-bringing. Amelie did not have a loving up-bringing, and did not go to a public school which meant she could not interact with other people her age and learn to communicate with other people in a what society would call a 'normal' way. However, this film also suggests that social empairment can be resolved if the person is willing to put their childhood behind them and start letting others into their lives.
How is this theme or issue explored in a key sequence from your film (6)
There are many scenes in which social empairment is present. One of these is when Nino is in the cafe and he asks if the note is from her, she appears very nervous and says 'no' even when she herself invited him there. She herself is very socially awkward around people she does not know well, for example when she returns the box to brotododu he speaks to her in the pub, she appears to be extremely embarrassed and uncomfortable, which highlights her social empairment to the audience even more. She also plays childish games such as when she takes a picture of herself in a zoro costume so she wouldn't reveal her identity to Nino, this links back to the fact that her childhood is the only things she knows and is the main reason why she is so - how the audience would interept her 'strange'.
